The renowned Physics is Phun series captivates audiences with physics demonstrations that engage, excite, and entertain. Hosted by the Physics Lecture Demonstration Facility, each program covers one of a range of ever-changing topics of physics, presented at a high-school level. Read more...

A highly interactive program with hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and mini-projects, Physics Discovery Days provides fun and education for a family-oriented audience. The program is targeted for upper-elementary students. Read more...


Summer Camps

Summer Girls is a free, two-week program with sessions for rising 9th graders and 11th and 12th graders. Activities include numerous lab experiments, lessons, demos, and tours of research hosted at UMD. The 9th grade session focuses on mechanics, while the 11th and 12th grade program jumps into the world of modern physics. Read more...


This innovative program combines physics, sport, and literature of the Harry Potter novels. Within the context of the real-life sport of quidditch, camp participants conduct experiments, learn concepts in mechanics, explore fantasy elements of the novels, and play the game of quidditch. Read more...

Physics students from area high schools put their skills up to the test at the University of Maryland Physics Olympics. Teams compete in a number of events that challenge physics knowledge and building and engineering skills. Read more...
