Title: The Impact of Sterile Neutrinos on the Search for Leptonic CP Violation

Abstract: We will very briefly review the hints that light sterile neutrinos may exist. Then we will show that, if real, such neutrinos could very significantly affect the interpretation of the future long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments that will probe whether leptons violate CP symmetry. Long-baseline measurements could appear to indicate that CP violation is small or absent, when in fact it is large. Measurements interpreted as determining the sole oscillation-relevant CP-violating phase in the leptonic mixing matrix could in fact be measuring something else. The conclusion is that we need to find out whether light sterile neutrinos actually exist or not.
