Alpha-bits, Teleportation and Black Holes QuICS Seminar
Speaker: Geoff Penington (Stanford) Time: Wednesday, February 20, 2019 - 11:00am Location: PSC 3150 The theory of alpha-bits is a natural generalisation of approximate quantum error correction that proves fundamental to the study of asymptotic quantum communication resources. In particular, it leads to an asymptotically reversible version of quantum teleportation, called zero-bit teleportation, which decomposes qubits of communication into correlation and transmission components. Alpha-bit codes also appear when studying entanglement wedge reconstruction in AdS/CFT, where they imply that the reconstruction of the bulk operators is both state-dependent and, necessarily, only approximate. Similar ideas may help resolve the black hole information paradox.
