Title: Crystal Growth Techniques Abstract: Quantum materials are defined as solids with exotic physical properties, arising from the quantum mechanical properties of their constituent electrons, that have great scientific or technological potential. The study of these materials is heavily dependent on sample quality and crystallinity. In many cases, researchers have been discouraged that obtaining the optimal sample quality seems impossible. Crystal growers have come up with interesting techniques that can create the ideal conditions to synthesize almost any kind of crystal. In this talk, I will discuss some of the basics of crystal techniques going from melt, vapor, and solution. In-Person Location: Toll Physics Room # 1201 Time: 4pm -5:00pm
