Title: Challenging the standard model with charm at the LHC
Abstract: Discrepancies between theory predictions and measurements of low-energy quantities may reveal virtual contributions of non-standard-model particles or interactions prior to their direct observation. Historically, such an ”indirect” approach has been rewarding, especially in quark-flavor dynamics. The LHCb experiment at the LHC proton-proton collider has access to the world’s largest samples of charm-meson decays. I will discuss recent charm physics results, focusing on a few that offer the highest potential to challenge the standard model.
