Three Graduate Students Recognized by the Graduate School as Outstanding Graduate Assistants

Please join us in congratulating Gina Quan, Joshua Wood, and Zachary Eldredge, who were awarded the Graduate School's 2016 Outstanding Graduate Assistant Award. The Graduate School established this new award to recognize and honor the outstanding contributions that Graduate Assistants provide to students, faculty, departments, administrative units, and the University as a whole. The award conveys the honor of being named among the top 2% of campus Graduate Assistants in a given year.

Meet Junellie Gonzalez Quiles

How far would you go to pursue your dream? Junellie Gonzalez Quiles, a sophomore astronomy and physics double major at the University of Maryland, left her home in Puerto Rico at age 17 to travel over 1,500 miles across an ocean and halfway up the East Coast to pursue her dream of becoming an astrophysicist.

Her dream started at a young age. “I was always interested in science since I was very little,” said Gonzalez. “I was always asking questions, especially ‘Why?’. I didn’t want to just accept things as they were.”
