Description

This is a participatory learning seminar on the interface between geometry (differential and algebraic), topology (geometric and algebraic), and theoretical physics (including high energy physics and condensed matter theory).  This is one of the most active areas of mathematics and mathematical physics and a great way to find out about current research.

Course credit is available for undergraduates (via the course number MATH489) or grad students
(via the course numbers MATH689, or AMSC689).

You do not need to be an expert in both mathematics and physics to participate (in fact, it's almost impossible to master both subjects).  The only main requirement is some background in either math or physics and an interest in learning more. On the webpage https://www-math.umd.edu/research/seminars/rit-on-geometry-and-phsyics.html you can see some of the topics that we have attempted in recent years.

The organizers are S. Jim Gates (Physics), Amin Gholampour (Math), Tristan Hubsch (Physics, Howard Univ.), Jonathan Rosenberg (Math), and Richard Wentworth (Math).

The seminar meets Thursdays at 3:30.
