Congratulations to Arthur LaPorta, Assistant Professor, who was selected as the 2008-2009 Undergraduate Research Mentor of the Year. Undergraduate research plays an important role in the future careers of our students. This award recognizes the importance of the collaboration between student researcher and faculty mentor.  Nominated by his student, Dr.LaPorta was described as helpful and accommodating, with regards to academic pursuits.  The following is an excerpt from the letter:

“Working under Professor LaPorta has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my college education. He has put together a lab in which an undergraduate student can feel a sense of pride from playing an important role in real research.”

Dr. LaPorta will be presented with this award at the opening session of the Undergraduate Research Day on Wednesday, April 22, 2009.
