Title: A search for light WIMP dark matter and coherent neutrino scattering with the LZ experiment
Speaker name: Carter Hall Speaker institution: University of Maryland
Abstract: We describe recent LZ results on a search for low-mass WIMP dark matter and the observation of solar neutrino coherent scattering (arXiv:2512.08065). Solar neutrinos are usually observed via three processes: charged-current interactions with a neutron in a nucleus, neutral current dissociation of deuterium, and elastic scattering on atomic electrons. LZ has now found 4.5 sigma evidence for nuclear recoils caused by the coherent scattering of these neutrinos, a type of 'solar neutrino floor' for light WIMP searches in the mass range between 3 and 9 GeV. The new results confirm the excellent performance of the experiment and its ability to do science on its lower energy threshold where statistical fluctuations in light collection are paramount.
