Title: The Science and Technology of the Advanced X-ray Imaging Satellite (AXIS)
Speaker: Christopher Reynolds, Department of Astronomy, University of Maryland
Abstract: The Advanced X-ray Imaging Satellite (AXIS) is the future of high-angular resolution X-ray astronomy, providing ~1.5” angular resolution over a wide field of view with approximately 5-10x the effective area of Chandra. AXIS is one of two missions under consideration for NASA's next Astrophysics Probe and is currently in the formal Phase A concept study. In this talk, I will discuss all aspects of the AXIS program including the scientific objectives that drive the mission design and the technology that enables this huge leap beyond the current state of the art.
