Tau Leptons as Probes of New Interactions at CMS Yuta Takahashi (University of Florida)Â
Abstract: The three-generation structure of fermions and the striking hierarchy of their mass spectra -- collectively known as the flavor puzzles -- remain among the most profound open questions in particle physics.
In this talk, I will focus on the tau lepton and present a comprehensive overview of my research at the CMS experiment, which aims to probe new interactions that may couple preferentially to third-generation fermions, potentially shedding light on these flavor puzzles. The presentation will cover both direct and indirect searches for new physics using tau leptons, as well as an innovative real-time reconstruction of tau->3pion decays at the 40 MHz collision frequency, with the data streamed to the processing farm. If time permits, I will also discuss ongoing hardware developments toward future collider experiments.
